Free Screening!

CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON, 2000, Sony Pictures Classics, 120 minutes. Director Ang Lee virtually reinvented Chinese cinema's wuxia swordplay genre with this startlingly good, moving romantic adventure starring Michele Yeoh and Chow Yun-Fat as estranged lovers searching for the stolen Green Destiny sword. Ziyi Zhang is the hotblooded, younger girl who is equally adept at martial arts, bent with crossing blades with the two at every opportunity. With celebrated veteran wuxia star, Cheng Pei-Pei as the super-villainess, Jade Fox. Exhilirating! Nominated for 10 Oscars and winner of 4, including Best Foreign Language Film. Admission is first come, first served, the day of the screening.

Monday, December 5 – 4:00 PM

Free Screening!

2046, 2004, Sony Pictures Classics, 130 min. Director Wong Kar-Wai's moody, dreamlike saga of blurring times, destinies and dimensions. Tony Leung Kar-Fai symbolically reprises his role from Kar-Wai's IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE, but this time is an embittered soul in the near future of 2046, a kind of romantic-reincarnated-as-cynical-libertine, breaking the hearts of various women, including Bai-Ling (Ziyi Zhang.) With Gong Li, Takuya Kimura and Maggie Cheung. Admission is first come, first served, the day of the screening.

Monday, December 5 – 7:30 PM

SOLD OUT - Sneak Preview!

MEMOIRS OF A GEISHA, 2005, Columbia Pictures (Sony). Set in a mysterious and exotic world that still casts a potent spell today, this sweeping romantic epic begins in the years before WWII when a penniless Japanese child is torn from her family to work as a maid in a geisha house. Despite a treacherous rival who nearly breaks her spirit, the girl blossoms into the legendary geisha Sayuri (Ziyi Zhang). Beautiful and accomplished, Sayuri captivates the most powerful men of her day, but is haunted by her secret love for the one man who is out of her reach (Ken Watanabe). Directed by Academy Awardâ nominee Rob Marshall (CHICAGO) and produced by Lucy Fisher, Douglas Wick and Steven Spielberg, from a screenplay by Robin Swicord and Doug Wright, this adaptation of the popular international bestseller by Arthur Golden features an all-star international cast that also includes Michelle Yeoh (CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON), Koji Yakusho (CURE), Youki Kudoh (SNOW FALLING ON CEDARS) and Gong Li (RAISE THE RED LANTERN). Actress Ziyi Zhang will appear for discussion following the film. Director, Rob Marshall will not be able to attend as was previously announced. Regular paid admission.
