A stop-action animated video for former Pavement frontman Stephen Malkmus. Ioana Uricaru’s "The Sun and the Moon" (USA, 2007, 13 min). A meditative, atmospheric portrait of a distant culture, shot in gorgeous black and white. Myna Joseph’s "Man" (USA, 2007, 15 min). Two sisters explore their sexuality in this student film by one of Filmmaker Magazine's 25 New Faces of Independent Films 2008. Program compiled by Andrew P. Crane, Kim Adelman and Andrea Richards. Discussion with filmmakers Amy Axelson, Kimberly M. Wetherell, Ioana Uricaru and Nicole Mitchell to follow screening. GOLDEN GLOBE FOREIGN LANGUAGE NOMINEES SEMINAR. Co-Presented With The Hollywood Foreign Press Association. Discover the best of new foreign films with the five foreign language nominees for the Golden Globe Award. Please join us for a FREE Round Table seminar with the filmmakers including Philippe Claudel, Uli Edel, Ari Folman, Matteo Garrone and Jan Troell. Moderated by Mike Goodridge (Screen International).

Antebellum Gallery Presents Fetish Film Night Hosted by Rick Castro. Veronica Cartwright In Person!

INSERTS, 1974, MGM Repertory, 117 min. Written and directed by John Byrum. A degenerate film with dignity, starring a young (pre-JAWS) Richard Dreyfuss, Jessica Harper and Veronica Cartwright. Originally rated X but later re-rated as NC-17, the story focuses on pornographic film production, and the movie takes its name from a double entendre: "Insert" refers to both a film editing technique and sexual intercourse. Set in the 1930s, Boy Wonder (Dreyfuss), a once-great silent film director, unable to make the transition to the new talkies, lives as a near-hermit in his Hollywood home making cheap, silent sex films, using desperate actress Miss Cake (Harper), suffering in the knowledge of his sexual impotence and apathetic about plans to demolish his home to make way for a then-new motorway -- the Hollywood Freeway! INSERTS has a small but fervent cult following, which puts it under the category of fetish. It’s like an X-rated version of SUNSET BOULEVARD! Now they make pornos. But they're brilliant pornos. FETISH FILM NIGHT (FFN) is a once-monthly series hosted by Rick Castro of Antebellum Gallery. Each screening will be followed by an informal discussion and debate with the audience. All screenings for this series will have fetish as the main theme and subject matter. Rick Castro is an independent curator, filmmaker and photographer who has worked and lived in Los Angeles his entire life. Castro explores the worlds of fetish and subculture. Rick’s photography is in the permanent collections of the Alfred Kinsey Institute and the Tom of Finland Foundation. His books and magazines are archived at the UCLA Library and the Leather Museum in Chicago. Rick owns and runs Antebellum Gallery, the only fetish art gallery in the world. THE STORY OF HOLLYWOOD: An Illustrated History, 90 min. Author Gregory Paul Williams will present a slide show and talk about his award-winning book THE STORY OF HOLLYWOOD An Illustrated History (BL Press LLC) as part of the Art Deco Society of Los Angeles lecture series. Illustrated with over 800 vintage images from the author’s private collection, some never-before-published, "The Story of Hollywood" takes readers on the ultimate armchair tour of one of the most famous places on earth. Williams will sign books following the lecture. "Other books have traced the history of moviemaking in Los Angeles and the cultural history of Hollywood, but this ambitious and handsome new volume is the most thorough examination of the town itself I’ve ever seen." -- Leonard Maltin.
