| Architect of Aesthetic: A Joel
Schumacher Tribute
Some
Screenings in this series take place at the Aero Theatre!
Joel Schumacher began his career as a costume designer, and his impeccable
sense of visual design is evident in all of his directorial efforts, from his feature
debut THE INCREDIBLE SHRINKING WOMAN to his recent Sundance triumph TWELVE
yet this is no mere stylist. Throughout his career as a writer and director, Schumacher
has traversed a wide variety of genres, subjects, and tones to create a diverse body of
work. Dramas such as FALLING DOWN and FLATLINERS coexist with legal
thrillers (THE CLIENT, A TIME TO KILL), and horror films (THE LOST BOYS, TOWN CREEK),
while gritty, modestly budgeted character studies such as TIGERLAND and VERONICA GUERIN
alternate with glossy studio franchise films including Schumacher's two BATMAN entries.
Join us for a selection of Schumacher's past works (including a 25th anniversary
screening of ST. ELMO'S FIRE) as well as an advance screening of his latest film, TWELVE.

Schumacher. When defense worker Michael Douglas loses his job and finds himself estranged
from his family, he snaps and becomes a vigilante fighting for all the things he feels he
and his generation have lost. The result is a chilling and moving satire thanks to
Douglas pitch-perfect performance and Schumacher's empathetic treatment of his
antihero. Trailer
