|Watching the films of Russ
Meyer brings to mind what might have happened if the likes of Sam Fuller, Frank Tashlin,
Erskine Caldwell, R. Crumb and Henry Miller had put their libidos (and brains) together to create a Parallel Universe inhabited by
luscious, loving angels and cat-scratching vixens, bitter old drunks and borderline
psychotics. A combat photographer during WWII (he landed on Normandy beach on D-Day),
Meyer brought a surefire directness and ferocious sense of humor to his films, from the
stark, savage FASTER, PUSSYCAT! KILL! KILL! and MOTORPSYCHO, to the Day-Glo weirdness of
BEYOND THE VALLEY OF THE DOLLS and SUPERVIXENS. Few filmmakers have looked as long and
hard at the kinky games people play as Meyer -- or had as much fun watching ...We're very pleased to welcome Russ Meyer to
the Egyptian Theatre for this retrospective.

Ultra-Rare 35 mm Print!
MUDHONEY, 1965, 92 min. Meyer returns to Erskine Caldwell territory as horny hillbillies and ornery old cusses try to lay their greasy hands on gorgeous country cousin Lorna Maitland. A bawdy barnyard pastiche that would turn Lil' Abner creator Al Capp green with envy.
Friday, September 17 - 9:00 PM
RUSS MEYER'S VIXEN, 1968, 70 min. Randy lumberjacks, faithful mounties and Cuban revolutionaries are just some of the fish skewered by Vixen Erica Gavin in Meyer's first big hit, what Roger Ebert called, "Meyer's best...a merciless put-on..." Discussiom with Erica Gavin.
MOTORPSYCHO, 1965, 74 min. Rural veterinarian Alex Rocco goes up against three dirtbike-riding nutcases led by gonzo Stephen Oliver, a short-fuse Nam vet bent on kidnapping his voluptuous wife in this fast-moving, ultra-violent companion-piece to FASTER PUSSYCAT!

Russ Meyer, Edy Williams, Cynthia Meyers and "Z-Man" John LaZar In-Person!
BEYOND THE VALLEY OF THE DOLLS, 1970, 20th Century Fox, 109 min. Dolly Reed, Marcia McBroom and the incredibly foxy Cynthia Meyers journey from Hicksville to Hollywood hoping to make it big with their all girl rock trio The Carrie Nations. With additional tunes from The Strawberry Alarm Clock. Repeat Screening on 9/24 at 9:30 PM. Discussion following 9/18 screening only with director Russ Meyer, Edy Williams, Cynthia Meyers and actor John LaZar.
Saturday, September 18 - 8:45 PM
LORNA, 1964, 79 min. Meyer's first lusty excursion into backwoods shenanigans combusts with a fire-and-brimstone sermon right out of the chute, then proceeds to examine the swamp country social circle of bored, barefoot & bosomy Lorna Maitland -- her naive, well-meaning boyfriend and the pair of violent cracker deviants who want her for their own, climaxing in a two-fisted brawl to end all brawls.
CHERRY, HARRY AND RAQUEL, 1969, 71 min. Rock-jawed deputy Charles Napier is in thrall to rich, bedridden misanthrope Franklin Bolger (the Lionel Barrymore of the Meyer universe) who wants Apache, their turncoat marijuana-dealing partner erased, pronto! Getting in the way of the shoot-outs, beatings and car-crashes are sly whore Larissa Ely and Napier's oversexed Brit galpal, Linda Ashton. With the simply unbelievable Uschi Digard (aka Astrid Lillimoor) as the German-speaking Native American ghost, Soul! Discussion with Charles Napier.

Sin & Salvation Double-Header!!
THE IMMORAL MR. TEAS, 1959, 63 min. Truly groundbreaking nudie-cutie from then burgeoning pioneer Meyer pokes fun at all skin-flicks that came before, daring to have fun with sex at the end of a puritanical decade. Mischievous straw-hat-wearing, bicycle-riding, false teeth delivery man, Bill Teas savors a progressively more erotic smorgasabord of naughty delights and capacious sweethearts as he makes his way through town one sunny afternoon.
GOOD MORNING... AND GOODBYE, 1967, 80 min. Over-the-hill fatcat Stuart Lancaster can't hold onto his sarcastic dying-for-it wife Alaina Capri in this hilarious and pneumatic tale of lost love and lust in California's inland valleys. With Haji as a free-spirited wood-nymph/sorceress and a very young Don Johnson as a sportscar-driving stud. Once again writer Jack Moran helps to supply Meyer with the sidesplitting dialogue and narration.

SUPERVIXENS, 1975, 106 min. Chuck Jones meets Dario Argento in the great arid Southwest in a pared-to-the-bone, tongue-in-cheek sex thriller -- one of Meyer's certified over-the-top masterworks. Well-hungbut impotent psycho-cop, Charles Napier murders super-bitchy Shari Eubanks in literally the most electrifying death scene in seventies cinema. She reincarnates as the kinder, gentler Super Angel and manages to once again cross paths with her past life boyfriend, Charles Pitts and killer Napier in an explosive Loony-Tunes-inspired climax. Co-starrng Uschi Digard, Sharon Kelly, Stuart Lancaster and John LaZar. Discussion following with director Russ Meyer.

COMMON-LAW CABIN aka HOW MUCH LOVING DOES A NORMAL COUPLE NEED?, 1967, 70 min. A ramshackle dude ranch in the desert is the setting for yet another romp with inadequate hubbies and their super-endowed wives, a bevy of nearly supernatural females on the lookout for fulfillment in the sack -- even if it means coupling with killer thief Ken Swofford.
