Theatre Policies

  • We reserve the right to refuse service.
  • No photography, video or audio recording is permitted without prior consent from the American Cinematheque. If we do not advertise a booksigning or autograph session, then patrons should not ask for autographs.
  • Filming or photographing the screen during a film is strictly prohibited and punishable by law.
  • Cell phones and other mobile/recording devices must be turned off during presentations unless it is announced from the stage that it is okay to be on social media.
  • Program subject to change without notice.
  • Only service animals are permitted in the theater.
  • We leave it to parents to determine whether or not their child will have the attention span to quietly sit through a film. We have a lovely courtyard available for a little break for exercise and fresh air should attention span wane during the movie.
  • No conversations in the lobby are permitted during a film, as the sound carries into the auditorium and disrupts the movie.

FAQ

STANDBY LINE FOR SOLD-OUT PROGRAMS

The American Cinematheque runs a standby line for all sold-out shows. Sometimes tickets become available due to refunds made on Fandango. We do not oversell shows.

DOUBLE FEATURES OR MARATHONS

When you hold a ticket to a program featuring more than one film, you can enter the theater at any time during the program. Once you buy a seat it is yours. The box office stays open until 30 minutes AFTER the last film of the day/night starts. Start times of second, third, etc. features are approximate as there are introductions, intermissions (usually no more than 10 minutes) and Q&As at some programs. Q&As usually last 20 to 30 minutes maximum.

WHY SOME FILMS/EVENTS ARE NOT LISTED ON FANDANGO

All American Cinematheque-hosted programs are sold on Fandango.com. If you don’t see a program you are searching for, it might be that a film festival or distributor has rented the theatre for an event. The event may be public, but the tickets are sold or given away by the organization or company running the event. Most multi-day film festivals are mentioned on the American Cinematheque website with a link to the festival website, but not all rental events will be listed. For inquiries about a non-Cinematheque event, you must contact the event organizers. American Cinematheque members will be alerted if they are invited or get a discount for a non-Cinematheque event taking place at one of our venues.

FREE EVENTS

For free American Cinematheque events we use Eventbrite.com. Our website will carry a link to RSVP for events that are available for RSVP.

CONTEST WINNERS RULES & REGULATIONS

All persons who enter a contest to win tickets to a show at the American Cinematheque will need to pick up their tickets at the box office at least 30 minutes prior to the start of a show. Winners can only redeem tickets for the show promoted. Winners who fail to appear for the show have forfeited the ticket. No cash value. Winners cannot substitute tickets for a cash award. Tickets will be held until 15 minutes prior to showtime in the event of a sold-out show.
