Go behind the scenes on a docent-led tour of an authentic Hollywood landmark! The Egyptian Theatre is the home of the first Hollywood movie premiere.
Enjoy an “Old Hollywood” experience with a tour of master showman Sid Grauman’s legendary 1922 Egyptian Theatre, a city of Los Angeles historic cultural monument. Discover the painstaking restoration work and the marriage of modern technology in a landmark of Hollywood history. Discover spaces not normally on public view when you see what it would have been like to be in a Grauman “prologue” (live stage show) with a visit to the dressing rooms and singers' boxes and then check out our state-of-the-art projection booth and more!
Public tours of the legendary 1922 Egyptian Theatre are offered once a month on a Saturday morning at 10:30 AM. Advance tickets are available online, or you can purchase tickets at the box office on the day of the tour. Reservations are not necessary. However, if you plan to come in a group of 10 or more, we would appreciate advance notice so we can make sure to have an extra docent on hand. View our calendar.

Tours are approximately 60 minutes and are held rain or shine. They are predominantly inside the building. Wear your walking shoes as there will be stairs to climb and we cover a lot of ground. There are some areas that are only accessible by stairs. For a total "Old Hollywood" experience, plan to have lunch at neighboring historic restaurants, Musso & Frank's (1919) or Miceli's Italian Restaurant (1949) (call for hours) – two of Los Angeles’ oldest restaurants.
Do you have a group of 10 or more people interested in the rich history of the 1922 Egyptian Theatre? Your group can choose a date and time (subject to availability) that best fits your schedule. Your group will go behind the scenes at the Egyptian Theatre to learn about the restoration and renovation of this important Hollywood landmark with your own docent.
We also offer a program for school groups (8 years old and up) that exposes young people to silent cinema and what it was like to be a child in the 1920s when the theatre was built.
For larger groups, we offer the opportunity to screen our history of Hollywood film FOREVER HOLLYWOOD (55 minutes), featuring 400+ archival and film clips and over 20 celebrity interviews including Clint Eastwood, Steven Spielberg, Quentin Tarantino, Salma Hayak, Angela Lansbury, John Waters and more. The film was made exclusively to show at the Egyptian Theatre and is narrated by Sharon Stone.
If you do not have a group and cannot make one of our scheduled public tours, you can inquire about tours you might be able to join. Contact us for dates/prices.
