THE SCREENING ROOM GETS GROOVY WITH WONDERWALL, AN
"AMERICAN CINEMATHEQUE PRESENTS" RELEASE FROM VITAGRAPH PICTURES
New York, September 22, 2000 Like its present-day counterpart Austin
Powers, the headtripping, surreal madness of Joe Massotıs 1969 film WONDERWALL
celebrates all that was groovy about the '60s. Coming to the screen October 7 from
"American Cinematheque Presents..." as a continuation of The Screening Roomıs
"Weekend Classics" series, WONDERWALL tells the tale of an eccentric scientist
who stumbles upon a secret window into the sex life of gorgeous nymph Jane Birkin.
Overflowing with psychedelic flashbacks, dream sequences and plenty of free love,
the classic film features a shimmering, sitar-laced instrumental soundtrack by former
Beatle George Harrison.
In addition to the sitar-laced instrumental score by George Harrison, the new print shown
at The Screening Room will also include a lost and previously unused "Blue Jay
Way"-like theme song which was recently discovered in Harrisonıs vaults. An
outrageous journey back to the Age of Altered Consciousness, the screening will also
include Joe Massotıs short film about Swinging London, REFLECTIONS ON LOVE, as a special
bonus for audiences.
WONDERWALL will screen Saturdays and Sundays, October 7 29. Showtimes are as
follows: October 7 & 8, 28 & 29 at 1:00 p.m.; October 14 & 15, 21 &
22 at 12:00 noon.
Tickets to films at The Screening Room are $9 for regular admission and $6 for seniors and
children under 12. For more information or for dinner reservations, call (212)
334-2100.
