The American Cinematheque celebration includes a special screening of the newly-restored 35mm print one of Glenn Ford’s most famous films – the 1946 classic "Gilda" co-starring Rita Hayworth – with whom Ford starred in five pictures. (The screening also coincides with the 60th anniversary of the release of "Gilda.")

Glenn Ford is planning to make a very rare personal appearance at the event – his first public appearance in 15 years - for the pre-screening birthday salutations – which will include special messages from dignitaries and friends honoring a Hollywood career that spanned seven decades of the 20th century.

The event takes place on his actual birthday – Monday May 1st – at the American Cinematheque’s permanent home – the restored 1922 landmark movie palace Grauman’s Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood.

To salute the occasion - Johnny Grant, the Honorary Mayor of Hollywood will present a replica of Glenn Ford’s star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame. (Ford was awarded his star in 1958 at a time before the now-familiar induction ceremonies.)

After birthday salutations from some of the stars who worked with Glenn Ford during his 54 working years in 108 film and television roles – attendees will see the restored 35mm print of "Gilda" (courtesy of Sony Pictures) and "Night in Manhattan" the ultra-rare 1937 short film in which Glenn Ford made his big screen debut. The night will culminate with a birthday cake reception in the Egyptian Theatre courtyard for all attendees – sponsored by Moet & Chandon Champagne and Chopin Vodka.
