ABOUT THE EVENT: The American Cinematheque is thrilled to welcome casting director Francine Maisler for a special in-person tribute in celebration of her latest work SINNERS, from Director/Writer/Producer Ryan Coogler, now nominated for a record-breaking 16 Academy Awards. For more than four decades, Maisler has been responsible for introducing cinema to several bright new stars and bringing together some of the medium’s most iconic ensembles in countless television shows and more than seventy feature films including 12 YEARS A SLAVE, DUNE, BIRDMAN, THE REVENANT, LITTLE WOMEN and THE TRIAL OF THE CHICAGO 7. Her remarkable career has established her as one of today’s most influential and impactful casting professionals. ABOUT THE FILMS: SINNERS, 2025, Dir. Based on a true story, the film focuses on the Alabama’s commanding officer, Captain Richard Phillips (Tom Hanks), and the Somali pirate captain, Muse (Barkhad Abdi), who takes him hostage. The two men are set on an unstoppable collision course when Muse and his crew target Phillips’ unarmed ship; in the ensuing standoff, both men will find themselves at the mercy of forces beyond their control.
