Preserving the Past, Empowering the Future

The American Cinematheque Archive is more than a collection: it’s a living record of cinema culture and theatrical exhibition. Spanning over 40 years of film programming, the archive documents over 30,000 unique events containing over 16,000 visiting artists and special guests. In total, the archive houses over 300,000 photographs, 6,000+ recordings, and countless rare ephemeral artifacts dating back to the 1960s.

Established in 2019, the American Cinematheque Archive was created to provide members, scholars, researchers, students, and the general public access to hundreds of thousands of indelible moments throughout AC’s programming history. The Archive’s mission is to elevate and support the greater film community, inspire educational outreach, and captivate the next generation of theatre-going audiences.
