WeScreen

Learning Through Film

A Free Educational Program from the American Cinematheque

WeScreen is a dynamic, no-cost program for teachers and students in Grades 6–12, developed to integrate film screenings into classroom learning. Designed by national arts education leader Veronica Alvarez, Ed.D., WeScreen uses curated films and discussion to support curriculum in History, English Language Arts, STEAM, and more, helping students sharpen their media literacy skills while engaging with stories that spark critical thought and creativity.

First launched in 2024 with lead support from GRoW @ Annenberg, WeScreen has already reached over 1,000 students and teachers in the Los Angeles Unified School District. The program’s early success continues to generate demand across Los Angeles and beyond, with educators around the U.S. and abroad expressing interest in bringing the experience to their own classrooms.

What the Program Offers

Participating teachers select from a thoughtfully developed curriculum guide and prepare their students for a cinematic field trip to either the historic Aero Theatre in Santa Monica or Los Feliz 3 Theatre. The full-day experience includes:

  • Private film screening
  • Pre- and post-viewing discussion materials
  • Onsite discussion with filmmakers, film professors, film programmers, projectionists and art activities
  • Roundtrip transportation
  • Lunch for students, teachers, and chaperones
  • A Family Pass for each student to return with loved ones

How to Participate

If you’re interested in organizing a FREE (including transportation and lunch), fun and enriching experience at the iconic Aero Theatre in Santa Monica, the LF3 in Los Feliz, or the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood for middle and high school students, we’d love to hear from you.
