ABOUT THE FILM: The previously unreleased, undiscovered final feature film from legendary director Paul Bartel. It’s 1963 and JFK has been assassinated. Three young siblings—Tina, Pam and Scotty—are ushered into Mom and Dad’s well-stocked bomb shelter. 30 years later and 40 feet under, with their parents long dead, the kids are adults but they haven’t grown up and they’ve never left. Fueled by unfettered energy, no rules and intermittent tv broadcasts, they spend each day immersed in their own wild imaginations and childlike structures. A dark comedy based upon a theatrical production of the same name, SHELF LIFE was conceived and written by O-Lan Jones, Andrea Stein and Jim Turner as a result of their rumination on what must become of people boxed in tiny spaces for long, long periods of time.
