When Senator Rance Stoddard (James Stewart) returns to the town of Shinbone for the funeral of his friend Tom Doniphon (John Wayne), an interview with a reporter kicks off a tale of romance, old-west politics, and outlaw adventures. Recounting his rise in government, Stoddard describes how his relationship with Tom and the secret assassination of Liberty Valance inspired him to change how lives are led on the frontier for the better. Featuring Lee Marvin and Vera Miles.
