December 10 – December 11, 2022 Alejandro G. Iñárritu: An American Cinematheque Retrospective Series | BARDO, FALSE CHRONICLE OF A HANDFUL OF TRUTHS, AMORES PERROS, BIRDMAN OR (THE UNEXPECTED VIRTUE OF IGNORANCE)
The American Cinematheque is proud to welcome filmmaker Alejandro G. Iñárritu in person at the Aero Theatre for his new film, BARDO, FALSE CHRONICLE OF A HANDFUL OF TRUTHS. Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s multistrand storytelling and distinct visual style have earned him four Academy Awards including Best Picture and two for Best Director. His brutal and aching 2001 debut feature, AMORES PERROS, sent shock waves throughout the Mexican film industry and captured the violence and emotion of Mexico City at the time. The Best Picture Academy Award winning BIRDMAN OR (THE UNEXPECTED VIRTUE OF IGNORANCE) follows a washed-up actor trying to revive his career while battling his own ego. With BARDO, FALSE CHRONICLE OF A HANDFUL OF TRUTHS, Iñárritu returns to Mexico for the first time since AMORES PERROS. Paralleling his own life, the fictional Silverio finds that the return brings questions about identity, success, mortality, and the history of Mexico. Alejandro G. Iñárritu also joins us in person for a Q&A with AMORES PERROS / BIRDMAN OR (THE UNEXPECTED VIRTUE OF IGNORANCE)
