February 20 - February 24, 2024 Jacqueline West: An American Cinematheque Tribute Series | KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON, THE SOCIAL NETWORK, THE TREE OF LIFE Aero Theatre and Los Feliz 3
ABOUT THE SERIES: Jacqueline West does her homework. She indulges in the anthropological wealth of an era and spends months reading and looking at how people hold themselves (and why); how an environment impacts one’s attire; and most importantly, how her characters display the weight of their history. At her crux, she is still an art history student who never ceased her scholarship, driving her research across centuries and onto the screen. As the daughter of a fashion designer, she is no stranger to people’s wardrobes. But cinema was new to her until filmmaker Phillip Kaufmann stumbled into West’s clothing store in Berkeley and asked her to costume his films, ultimately earning her her first Academy Award nomination. From there, it was Terrence Malick, David Fincher—several more Academy Award nominations—and an endless list of auteurs who were lining up to work with her, including Martin Scorsese. Join the American Cinematheque in welcoming the acclaimed costume designer, Jacqueline West, as we explore some of her finest regalia on screen.
