November 9 - November 22, 2025 Noah Baumbach: An American Cinematheque Retrospective Series | THE MEYEROWITZ STORIES, JAY KELLY in 35mm, FRANCES HA, MARRIAGE STORY, THE SQUID AND THE WHALE
ABOUT THE SERIES: The American Cinematheque welcomes filmmaker Noah Baumbach for a retrospective centered on an advance screening of his newest film, JAY KELLY, followed by an in-person Q&A. Featuring an ensemble cast headed up by George Clooney, Adam Sandler, Laura Dern and Billy Crudup, JAY KELLY follows a movie star coming to terms with his life and legacy as he travels through Europe. Baumbach’s work exemplifies a kind of naturalism rarely found in contemporary American cinema, imbued with an almost literary sensitivity to the subtleties of the human condition. Populated by lived-in characters and deeply rooted in their particular place and time, Baumbach’s films capture the terroir of New York neurasthenia, from the Brooklyn blues of THE SQUID AND THE WHALE to the distinctly Millennial listlessness of FRANCES HA. Join us for a retrospective covering some of Baumbach’s most iconic films, including the Oscar-nominated MARRIAGE STORY and THE MEYEROWITZ STORIES, a poignant dramedy starring Adam Sandler.
