Laura Karpman: An American Cinematheque Retrospective

Aero Theatre and Los Feliz 3

ABOUT THE SERIES:
The American Cinematheque is thrilled to welcome five-time Emmy Award-winning composer Laura Karpman for an in-depth retrospective celebrating her special ability to make cinema sing.
Drafting her first composition at the ripe age of seven, Karpman’s most recent contributions on Cord Jefferson’s AMERICAN FICTION have earned her an Academy Award Nomination for Best Original Score, her music striking the perfect balance between deceptively funny and deeply heartfelt moments. This ability to counter the comedic with the devastating can also be found in her work in Eleanor Coppola’s romantic comedy PARIS CAN WAIT. It holds a spotlight on the surprises and quippy dialogue in SET IT UP, takes us on a suspenseful journey rife with schadenfreude in the documentary THE GALAPAGOS AFFAIR: SATAN CAME TO EDEN, and sends us on a musical pilgrimage in BLACK NATIVITY, with a score that evolves along with the protagonist from cynicism to forgiveness. Join the American Cinematheque as we open our hearts, and ears, to Karpman’s symphonic skill.
