About Us

Established in 1984, the American Cinematheque (AC) is a member-supported 501(c)(3) non-profit cultural arts organization dedicated to building a diverse and engaged film community through immersive film curation, conversation, and presentation. The American Cinematheque believes film is a communal experience with the power to entertain, enlighten and inspire. Since it first began showing films in theatres, the American Cinematheque has provided diverse film programming, screenings and live in-person conversations and events with thousands of filmmakers and luminaries, presenting both new and repertory cinema to the city of Los Angeles.

Over 1,700 screenings and events per year at the Aero Theatre in Santa Monica, the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood, Los Feliz 3 in Los Feliz, and Directors Village in Westwood.

PROOF is a short film festival in Los Angeles dedicated to showcasing the best in proof-of-concept short films and empowering the next generation of cinematic storytellers. Providing a highly competitive and unique festival experience, as well as opening the door for fruitful future filmmaking opportunities, PROOF is a one-stop-shop for the newest emerging talent.

 

Internship Summary

The Social Media and Industry Relations Intern under the direction of the PROOF Festival Coordinator and American Cinematheque Programmer and PROOF Founder will assist in the essential planning process for the industry and marketing branches of the fall film festival.

 

General Responsibilities:

     
    Social Media

  • Posting on social channels
  • Help cultivate a PROOF online presence
  • Responding to DMs and inquiries
  • Pitch social media engagement ideas
  • Help to manage the PROOF social calendar
  • Gather video and photo content at festival events
  • File and data management
  • All other roles as assigned
  •  
    Industry Relations

  • Assist Industry Relations coordinator with research and identification of target companies for the festival for invitations
  • Assist in note taking for industry related meetings
  • Assist with database management for correspondence with companies
  • Help answer inquiries and questions from participants and companies
  • Admin tasks as assigned

 

Eligibility:

This is an unpaid internship and must be taken for credit at your College or University. You must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or master’s degree. You must live in Los Angeles in a commutable distance to Hollywood and Culver City.

 

What You’ll Gain

This internship provides important experience in a fast-paced, industry-focused environment. Our intern will gain an understanding of building a social campaign leading up to a major event. Also, this internship will provide insight into the journey of independent filmmaking and how you get an idea turned into a film and the people involved in this process.

 

Qualifications:

  • Required to join us in-person for our Film Festival November 5h – 8th at our festival venues – Los Feliz 3, Culver Theater, and the Egyptian Theatre
  • Must live in Los Angeles and can be in person in the American Cinematheque offices in Hollywood and festival venues (Los Feliz 3, Culver Theater, and Egyptian Theatre)
  • Highly organized and detail oriented; outstanding administrative skills
  • Knowledge on filmmaking terms and key industry members and companies
  • Experience in Outlook, Slack, & Excel is preferred
  • Experience in Photoshop, marketing, and social media management is preferred
  • Experience in editing and graphic design is preferred
  • Current student in a College or University
  • Must have access to a computer
  • Passion for film and independent film

Duration:

This position will be primarily remote with some in-person aspects at our offices in Hollywood and festival locations. This is 10 – 20 hours a week position with increased hours the week of the festival. The internship will begin late August or early September and conclude November 9th. The exact schedule will be decided upon hiring.
