On Saturdays, we wear pink at the Los Feliz 3 this August as the American Cinematheque spotlights Los Angeles legend and queen of the billboards, Angelyne! Join us for this special edition of ‘Watch Local,’ which was curated by the glam icon herself and includes films that feature Angelyne and her enigmatic billboards. Dubbed the “Patron Saint of Los Angeles” by filmmaker Julien Temple, our series kicks off with a memorable cameo by Angelyne in Temple’s beloved campy musical comedy EARTH GIRLS ARE EASY. Spot the Angelyne billboard as you follow the misadventures of John Travolta as a gangster cinephile in Barry Sonnenfeld’s GET SHORTY and in two quintessential disaster films: Roland Emmerich’s climate crisis spectacle THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW and Mick Jackson’s VOLCANO, transforming the La Brea Tar Pits into a sensational volcanic eruption fit for a billboard queen.
