October 9 - October 12, 2025 Raoul Peck + George Orwell Series | ORWELL: 2+2=5, BRAZIL, THE HANDMAID’S TALE, THE CONFORMIST
ABOUT THE SERIES: The American Cinematheque is thrilled to welcome Haitian filmmaker Raoul Peck for an advance screening of his new documentary, ORWELL: 2+2=5, followed by a Q&A, as well as a curated series exploring the legacy of totalitarianism in film featuring in-person introductions from Peck. Bringing together historical materials, contemporary footage and sections from George Orwell’s own diary, ORWELL: 2+2=5 is both an astounding work of archival synthesis and a moving warning against the dangers of authoritarianism, shedding new light on the life and ideas of the 20th century’s most prophetic writer. Join us at the Los Feliz 3 for a selection of films that depict the struggle against—and within—Orwellian regimes, from the absurdist dark comedy BRAZIL, to the reactionary theocracy of THE HANDMAID’S TALE, to the art deco psychofascism of THE CONFORMIST. And don’t forget: BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING.
