July 1 – July 16, 2023 Tina Turner Remembered: Self-Made Star Series | MAD MAX BEYOND THUNDERDOME, TOMMY and LAST ACTION HERO Aero Theatre and Los Feliz 3
ABOUT THE SERIES: Dominating the stage, the Queen of Rock n Roll, Tina Turner made her on-screen debut in Ken Russells 1975 British satirical operetta TOMMY, based on The Who’s eponymous album as The Acid Queen. As an erratic sex-worker who deal in prophetic acid tabs, Turner joins an impressive ensemble casts and proves that she can create memorable and extraordinary moments on film as well as on stage. Ten years later she returns to film as the ruthless Aunty Entity in George Miller’s MAD MAX BEYOND THUNDERDOME. As the determined ruler of Bartertown, Turner’s Aunty Entity is an intelligent, cultured and glamorous Amazon-like woman who is focused on rebuilding her society to its former glory. In 1993, she returns for a final fictionalized performance as The Mayor in John McTierney’s action-packed LAST ACTION HERO. Before and between these roles she made several appearances in documentaries as herself in powerful on-stage performances and thoughtful commentaries on her contemporaries like IT’S YOUR THING about the Isley Brothers and GIMMIE SHELTER on The Rolling Stones 1969 American tour. A powerful force on-stage and off, Tina Turner’s legacy is reflected in her strong, resilient and scene-stealing film roles.
