March 29 - March 31, 2026 Nadav Lapid: An American Cinematheque Retrospective Series | AHED’S KNEE, SYNONYMS, YES, POLICEMAN, THE KINDERGARTEN TEACHER
ABOUT THE FILM: The American Cinematheque welcomes filmmaker Nadav Lapid for an in-person retrospective of his thematically bold and formally stunning works in celebration of his latest groundbreaking musical tragedy YES, an unflinching examination of how the personal and the political collide. In YES, a musician submits to a government request for a new national anthem, lying in stark contrast to the protagonist in AHED’S KNEE, a filmmaker turned freedom fighter who refuses to comply. More provocative than prescriptive, Lapid invites the audience to experience existential crises alongside these characters and witness the beauty inherent to acts of expression. Films like POLICEMAN and THE KINDERGARTEN TEACHER similarly examine the individual’s capacity for compartmentalization. With his fearless filmmaking style, Lapid’s point of view offers a unique way to parse through poetry and paradox.
