Ryan Gosling

Over the course of a career spanning more than two decades and 40 film and television credits, Ryan Gosling has established himself as one of the most influential, versatile, and respected actors of his generation.

He first earned widespread critical acclaim with his Academy Award-nominated performance in Half Nelson and has since built an extraordinary filmography that includes The Notebook, Lars and the Real Girl, Blue Valentine, Drive, Crazy, Stupid, Love, The Ides of March, The Place Beyond the Pines, The Nice Guys, La La Land, The Big Short, Blade Runner 2049, First Man, The Gray Man, and Barbie. His portrayal of Ken in Barbie earned nominations from the Academy Awards, BAFTA Awards, SAG Awards, Golden Globe Awards, and Critics Choice Awards. From intimate character studies and independent dramas to action thrillers, comedies, and ambitious studio productions, Gosling has consistently delivered memorable performances that resonate with audiences and critics alike.

Gosling currently stars in and produced Project Hail Mary, the adaptation of Andy Weir’s bestselling novel directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. Hailed by critics and embraced by audiences worldwide, the film became the highest-grossing release in Amazon MGM Studios history and earned Gosling some of the strongest reviews of his career.

He will next star in Shawn Levy’s Star Wars: Starfighter, a standalone feature set several years after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. The film also stars Amy Adams, Matt Smith, Mia Goth, and Aaron Pierre and is scheduled for release on May 28, 2027.

Throughout his career, Gosling has collaborated with many of contemporary cinema’s most acclaimed filmmakers, including Greta Gerwig, Damien Chazelle, Denis Villeneuve, Derek Cianfrance, George Clooney, Adam McKay, Shane Black, David Leitch, and Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. Since 1986, the American Cinematheque Award is presented annually to an extraordinary artist currently making a significant contribution to the art of the Moving Picture. The American Cinematheque’s mission is to celebrate the experience of cinema as a moving art form; we create spaces where both the public and members of the film industry come together as a community with the common language and love of film.

Established in 1984, the American Cinematheque is a member-supported 501(c)(3) non-profit cultural arts organization dedicated to building an engaged film community through immersive film curation, conversation, and presentation.  Since it first began showing films in theatres in 1985, the American Cinematheque has provided a wide range of film programming, with both new and repertory cinema, hosting screenings, panels and special events with thousands of filmmakers.
