It won’t be long before mother and daughter find themselves on the path to a collision so testing, the end result is nothing either could have expected. Ruth Paxton’s debut feature is a magnificent combination of psychodrama and body-horror examining the conflict between belief, faith and rational thinking through the prism of a clash between a widowed mother and her teenage daughter. What could be seen as a common domestic disturbance escalates to emotional extremes, unearthing past traumas that force these two women to face inner demons neither knew they were hiding from.
