ABOUT THE FILM: Based on a short story by Dostoevsky, A GENTLE WOMAN features the screen debut of Dominique Sanda (THE CONFORMIST), whom the director discovered. A balefully beautiful account of the marriage between the woman of the title (Sanda) and a pawnbroker (Guy Frangin) whose introspectiveness masks his sadistic nature.
