ABOUT THE FILM: When overenthusiastic artist Matt’s engagement proposition is turned down, his whole world collapses – unable to deal with the downfall, he moves into a sailboat and starts sorting through his home movie videos, encountering a younger version of himself that begins to confirm his worst fears: that he may be a loser, all told through a droll, incisive voiceover.Fans of John Wilson and Nathan Fielder, take note: there’s a new sheriff in town and his name is Matt Barats. Mining the tradition of uneasy humour with moments of genuine self-reflection, ANCHORS AWEIGH is a laugh-out-loud funny essay film that can change beats on the spin of a dime with an excruciating level of skill that requires someone with a really keen sense to manage.
