Years ago, a teenage girl was found strangled to death near a small village. Decades later, a young man named Stefano returns home to visit his older brother Paulo, who has become the local priest. But along with Stefano’s return comes a string of mysterious murders targeting members of a strange local religious sect. As Paulo begins receiving menacing warnings from an unknown source, Stefano decides to team up with his girlfriend Sara to begin looking into the seemingly ordinary town’s sinister past. A standout late entry to the Italian giallo cycle, Antonio Bido’s THE BLOODSTAINED SHADOW subverts expectations by offering a complex and serious-in-tone mystery set against the beauty and majesty of Venice.
