ABOUT THE FILM: Can Evrenol is back, and this time, he’s pulling no punches in his pitch-black ‘anti-revenge’ tale SAỲARA. Saỷara, a cleaner originally from Turkmenistan, works at a fitness center owned by Barış, with whom her sister Yonca is having a torrid affair. When Barış and his friends accidentally kill Yonca in an assault meant to intimidate her, Saỷara’s true nature is unleashed on them all. A subversion of the rape-revenge genre, Evrenol’s film is both brutal and suffocating. The true evil of patriarchy is not only reflected in the inherent cruelty of the characters but in the scars it leaves on their very identities.
