ABOUT THE FILM:

KISS OF DEATH, Dir. Henry Hathaway, 99 Min, Disney, USA

Originally released August 13, 1947

A timeless crime picture, superbly written by Ben Hecht and Charles Lederer, featuring a memorable performance by Victor Mature. He’s an ex-con who refuses to play ball with the assistant D.A. (Brian Donlevy) — until he’s double crossed by his psychopathic partner in crime, Tommy Udo (Richard Widmark, in an unforgettable debut). Coleen Gray provides the spark of hope, and the voiceover narration. Vibrant direction by Henry Hathaway in the “semi-documentary” style—meaning shot on location in New York City. It remains one of the essential noirs.
