Based on a novel by Georges Bernanos (who also penned DIARY OF A COUNTRY PRIEST), Bresson’s masterpiece chronicles the last days in the barren, isolated life of a poor provincial girl (Nadine Nortier), beset with a dying mother, an alcoholic father and an infant brother, who greets ridicule and humiliation with a truculent defiance.
