ABOUT THE FILM Director Lorcan Finnegan’s ability to find the sinister within the very mundane has so far produced some of the most interesting genre pieces of the last decade – in his last film VIVARIUM, he explored the horrors that lay behind the perfectly manicured lawns of identical looking houses in a new, purpose-built neighborhood and gave us nightmares to last for weeks. In NOCEBO he turns his lens into a laser sharp examination of a consumerist society and its relationship to those who are exploited for profit. Eva Green, in a stunning performance, stars as a fashion designer struck with a mysterious illness that cripples her life whilst her husband, brilliantly played by Mark Strong, watches helplessly. All hope seems lost until the arrival of a new carer for their kid who brings with her the hope of a solution with her folk healing – however what she will end up revealing will be more horrifying than any of them can anticipate.
