Two vibrant women struggle to achieve independence from the men in their lives and encroaching real estate development. Returning to make amends in her hometown, former beauty queen, Desiree (Angela Bassett) runs into an old flame who happens to be involved with the new development. In another part of the state, reluctant business owner, Marly (Edie Falco) weighs the decision to sell her property to the development while balancing caring for her ailing father and slacker ex-husband.
