ABOUT THE FILM:

An otherwise moral captain of a charter boat becomes financially strapped and is drawn into illegal activities in order to keep up payments on his boat. Based on the Ernest Hemingway novel To Have and Have Not, previously (loosely) adapted for the big screen in 1944 as a Bogart-Bacall adventure romance, Michael Curtiz’s decidedly more cynical rendition stars John Garfield and Patricia Neal, along with legendary Black cinema pioneer Juano Hernandez.
