Somewhere in a sumptuous house in the Welsh mountains, a wealthy family prepares for a dinner party to be attended by prestigious guests. With their regular helper unavailable, quiet, local young woman Cadi has been sent to stand-in for the evening. But Cadi is not what she seems – as her true nature makes itself apparent, the family gorges itself on the fat of the land, unaware that this is to be their very last meal. The film ratchets up the tension as the dinner party preparations go underway, with each family member attempting to suppress their particular demons and Cadi observing them with the icy detachment of a cruel judge, jury and executioner. The foreboding events and atmosphere blossom into full terror when the guests finally arrive and the dinner party gets underway. One of the only horror films to be made in the Welsh language, Lee Haven Jones’ narrative feature debut is a delicious modern twist on classic folk horror that is not afraid to use graphic violence to make a point. Likely the most audacious and inventive horror film of 2021, and not for the weak of heart. – Evrim Ersoy
