THE GIRL FROM PLAINVILLE, 2022, Hulu, USA.
THE GIRL FROM PLAINVILLE is inspired by the true story of Michelle Carter’s unprecedented “texting-suicide” case. Based on the Esquire article of the same name by Jesse Barron, the limited series starring Elle Fanning explores Carter’s relationship with Conrad Roy III and the events that led to his death and, later, her conviction of involuntary manslaughter.
“Star-Crossed Lovers and Things Like That,” 2022, Hulu, 43 min, USA.
A teen’s death by suicide unearths painful questions for his family and reveals a complicated, mostly virtual relationship with a young woman who may hold the answers.
THE NEON DEMON, 2016, Amazon Studios, 110 min, France, Dir: Nicolas Winding Refn.
Writer-director Nicolas Winding Refn’s first foray into horror follows Jesse (Elle Fanning), who moves to Los Angeles in pursuit of a career as a fashion model, only to find herself pursued by a group of beauty-obsessed women who will stop at nothing to devour her youth and vitality. Christina Hendricks, Jena Malone and Keanu Reeves costar in this blood-drenched thriller, shot with Refn’s customary visual panache.
