Prior to the screening, Kimberly Truhler will present and discuss the historical context, the cinematic influences that contributed to the style of the film noir genre, and the style and impact of three movies from this period – THE MALTESE FALCON, I WAKE UP SCREAMING, and THE SHANGHAI GESTURE.

Hard-boiled San Francisco detective Sam Spade (Humphrey Bogart) becomes entangled in the lives of three eccentric criminals, a beautiful liar and their quest for a priceless 16th century statuette known as the Maltese Falcon.
