Aero Theatre | Q&A with filmmaker Joanna Hogg
Home / Now Showing / THE SOUVENIR / THE SOUVENIR: PART II
The Q&A with writer-director Joanna Hogg will begin after the second film ends.
THE SOUVENIR, 2019, A24, 120 min. Dir. Joanna Hogg
Acclaimed writer-director Joanna Hogg combines passionate emotions and exquisite aesthetics into this lush, dreamlike story of young adulthood. A shy but ambitious film student (Honor Swinton Byrne) begins to find her voice as an artist while navigating a turbulent courtship with a charismatic but untrustworthy man (Tom Burke). She defies her protective mother (Tilda Swinton) and concerned friends as she slips deeper and deeper into an intense, emotionally fraught relationship that comes dangerously close to destroying her dreams.
THE SOUVENIR: PART II, 2021, 106 min. Dir. Joanna Hogg
In the aftermath of her tumultuous relationship with a manipulative older man, Julie (Honor Swinton Byrne) begins to untangle her fraught love for him in making her graduation film, sorting fact from his elaborately constructed fiction. Joanna Hogg’s shimmering story of first love and a young woman’s formative years, THE SOUVENIR: PART II is a portrait of the artist that transcends the halting particulars of everyday life — a singular, alchemic mix of memoir and fantasy.
