ABOUT THE FILM: Victor Nunez’s follow-up to RUBY IN PARADISE is another beautifully observed character study, this one featuring a career-best performance by Peter Fonda as a reclusive beekeeper who begins to take responsibility for his criminal son’s family. Fonda’s performance and those of Jessica Biel, J. Kenneth Campbell and Patricia Richardson led film critic Jonathan Rosenbaum to declare Nunez “the best director of actors in American movies”; taken in combination with the eloquence of Nunez’s screenplay and unadorned but expressive visual style, these performances yield another of the director’s major achievements.
