Bill Morrison: An American Cinematheque Tribute

Series | “Incident,” DECASIA, DAWSON CITY: FROZEN TIME

ABOUT THE SERIES:

The American Cinematheque is proud to pay tribute to renowned filmmaker Bill Morrison and his contributions to documentary filmmaking as part of our ‘This Is Not A Fiction’ festival.

Morrison’s approach, often combining rare archival materials with modern scores, invites audiences to reconsider older material in new ways, such as in DECASIA, a mediation on the ephemerality of silent films, and DAWSON CITY: FROZEN TIME, the story of one town’s discovery of a buried treasure trove of nitrate film print preserved underneath a decommissioned swimming pool. He also asks us to ponder important contemporary issues like police brutality in the short documentary “Incident,” assembled entirely out of body cam and surveillance footage. Join us as we allow Morrison’s films to appreciate the past while keeping a watchful eye on our future.
