May 10 - May 22, 2025 Late Night, Late '70s Series | ALL THAT JAZZ, SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER, DEMON SEED, THANK GOD IT’S FRIDAY
ABOUT THE SERIES: Running parallel to the death of sixties counter-culture, New Hollywood’s industry-shaking rise and fall led to a great reckoning in the 1970s. The Hollywood of the late ’70s was no longer at war with itself, but instead trying to reconcile the emergence of the ‘blockbuster’ with the continuing decline of both the studio system and the auteurism that had once re-invigorated the industry. The death of traditional tentpoles and a new wave of craft-driven independent filmmaking created a landscape of radical studio productions and highly-polished B-movies. The American Cinematheque invites you to spend the final hours of your day with us, exploring memorable and innovative films from the final years of this key transitional period for cinema and the world at large.
