ABOUT THE SERIES: The American Cinematheque is deeply saddened by the loss of the incomparable actor, Tim Curry. Curry’s work on stage and in film and television brought to life an extraordinary range of characters, from menacing villains to theatrical misfits. We invite you to join us as we pay tribute to the king of cult films and his everlasting legacy. Tim Curry’s stardom skyrocketed with his feature debut, THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW where he portrayed the flamboyant, Dr. Frank-N-Furter. Tim Curry’s work as the deliberately provocative and liberated scientist launched this film into what would become one of the most notorious cult film phenomena. In LEGEND, Ridley Scott’s epic, dark fantasy, Curry masterfully played the Lord of Darkness, a devil incarnate who was so uniquely characterized by an iconic distorted voice and imposing physical presence. In the same year, Curry starred in the boardgame adaptation CLUE, in which he played the frantic yet brilliant butler, Wadsworth. As part of Beyond Fest 2026, the American Cinematheque will also host an ultra-rare screening of STEPHEN KING’S IT. Tim Curry’s performance as the evil clown Pennywise has been hailed for his iconic facial expressions and voices that helped solidify the character as one of the most menacing and unique villains in horror history.
