FRI FEB 21, 2025 William Kentridge's complete 'Drawings for Projection' (1989–2020) Aero Theatre | Presented by Eastman Museum Los Angeles in partnership with the American Cinematheque in memory of Richard Kramlich
ABOUT THE EVENTS: Join Eastman Museum Los Angeles, a recently launched venture of the George Eastman Museum (Rochester, NY), for a special screening of William Kentridge’s complete ‘Drawings for Projection’ at the Aero Theatre. In 2015, Kentridge donated the complete set of his films, videos, and digital-born moving image works (more than 100 titles) to the George Eastman Museum, recognizing its leadership in preservation and its commitment to contemporary art; his donations continue. ‘Drawings for Projection,’ comprising eleven short films made from 1989 to 2020, is a touchstone of Kentridge’s prolific career. Usually projected in museums’ black-box rooms, this magnum opus—animated by his drawings on paper in charcoal and colored pencil and distinctive use of erasure—is even more powerful on the big screen. Eastman Museum Los Angeles has partnered with the American Cinematheque to enable the George Eastman Museum’s remarkable moving image collection—from silent films to contemporary artworks—to contribute to arts, culture, and education in Los Angeles.
